At Citymapper, we’re on a mission to help make complex cities easy to use. Our app helps millions of people in hundreds of cities around the world by giving them the most up-to-date and complete information on urban transportation options.
Our team iterates quickly and tests new features and UI tweaks daily in our own travels. We build new features while also refining the design of existing ones based on analytics. We aim to ship changes that make a real difference to users every two weeks or so. We also aim to support new Android features on day one and are currently expanding our use of technologies such as Jetpack Compose and Kotlin Coroutines throughout our app.
As a Senior Android Engineer at Citymapper you'll work with great engineers, designers, product managers to shape the underlying technology of our app, growing as a professional as you do.

We're a knowledgeable bunch of transport geeks with diverse backgrounds from all over the world - our software engineers are no different! For an hour every Friday, our engineers share their knowledge and expertise on a subject with the entire engineering team.
We have seen many of our engineers gain knowledge outside the area of their existing expertise, transitioning into different roles. There will always be help and support to meet your personal career goal.
Powering business customers is what we're also passionate about. We've just launched an SDK to support other companies serving their own customers, using the same technologies powering our consumer app.
What you'll do
- Work on either our SDK or our Consumer-facing application (or a bit of both!), reaching millions of travellers per month
- Join a small but cross-functional team, working with designers, product managers, iOS developers and backend developers
- Mentor junior members of the team, helping nurture the next generation of senior engineers
- Help advance our tech stack and evolve our architecture, ensuring we have a maintainable platform and enabling the rest of the team to work as effectively as possible

- Substantial experience building mobile apps
- Ability to work with designers and product managers to take features from design through to completion
- You care about the impact your code has on users, and a desire to build the best product possible
- SDK or location/maps experience is a plus
Location
We’re a genuinely hybrid company. Our employees have the choice of working from our headquarters on the south bank of the Thames in London, or from home (within the UK) - or a bit of both! If you're based outside of the UK we're also able to consider UK visa sponsorship for international candidates wanting to relocate to the UK.
